Offered in this lot is a pair of 1930 World Cup porcelain figurines. The 1930 FIFA World Cup was the first edition of FIFA’s global soccer showcase. Uruguay earned the right to host the tournament after winning gold medals in the 1924 and 1928 Summer Olympics, with the 1930 World Cup coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the ratification of Uruguay’s constitution. Uruguay cruised to victory in the World Cup, defeating Argentina 4-2 in Montevideo’s Estadio Centenario in the final match.

The first of these porcelain figurines shows two soccer players, both wearing the sky-blue colors of Uruguay with navy shorts and a brown soccer ball at their feet. These two men are standing on a white base painted with “1830 Uruguay 1930” and measure approximately 6 inches tall. The second figurine shows one soccer player, wearing the same uniform as the first figurine, and also kicking a soccer ball. “1830 Uruguay 1930” is painted on the base of this figurine as well and measures approximately 7 1/2 inches tall. These two whimsical porcelain figurines are in great condition and are a tremendous artifact from the first FIFA World Cup. These items comes with a LOA confirming it is part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
