The Uruguayan goalkeeper Roque Gaston Maspoli was presented with this award by the Uruguayan Press Association in 2003. Maspoli was the starting goalkeeper in the 1950 FIFA World Cup Final at the Maracana, holding Brazil to a single goal in Uruguay’s seminal 2-1 victory. Maspoli coached Uruguay from 1979 to 1982, and again in 1997, as his continued involvement in Uruguayan soccer stretched into the new millennium. This award is the “Premio Luz”, and it was presented to Maspoli in the year before his death in 2004 at the age of 86. The silver plaque features an enameled “ARGU” logo and a gold sun, with the Spanish text “Premio LUZ/ Nuestro reconocimento / a / ROQUE MASPOLI / en el 45 aniversario de la / ASOCIACION DE REPORTEROS GRAFICOS / DEL URUGUAY / 1958 - 17 de Julio - 2003” etched on the plaque. This historic plaque comes in a blue presentation box and is accompanied by a letter of provenance.
