Presented is a program that contains a souvenir scorecard from Game 3 of the 1932 World Series, the famous game in which Babe Ruth “Called his Shot” against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. The New York Yankees swept the Cubs in four game, but not before Game 3, played October 1, 1932, entered into legend. The moment came just before Ruth hit a home run in the fifth inning. During the at-bat, Ruth made a pointing gesture, which existing film confirms, but the exact meaning of his gesture remains ambiguous. With the score tied 4-4 in the fifth inning of game three, he took strike one from Cubs pitcher Charlie Root. As the Cubs players heckled Ruth, and the fans hurled insults, Ruth held up his hand, pointing at either Root, the Cubs dugout, or center field. No one knows for sure what his intentions were. He then repeated this gesture after taking strike two. Root's next pitch was a curveball that Ruth hit at least 440 feet to the deepest part of centerfield near the flag pole (some estimates are as high as 490 feet). The ground distance to the center-field corner, somewhat right of straightaway center, was 440 feet. The ball landed a little bit to the right of the 440 corners and farther back, apparently in the temporary seating in Sheffield Avenue behind the permanent interior bleacher seats.

The six-page white paper scorecard features a red, yellow, white, blue and black printed front cover with the legend “1932 Chicago Cubs vs. New York Yankees Chicago National League Ball Club Wrigley Field World’s Series Souvenir Score Card 25c”. The centerspread features the scorecard with pre-printed lineups in black on white with pink accents. The other interior pages feature black & white head & shoulder photos of top Cubs and Yankees players with pink accents, black type on white paper. The centerspread scorecard is detached from the two-staple binding. There are three masking tape stains in the inside back cover, and small brown stains on page 2, the centerspread, pages 7 and 8. The front cover of the 6 x 9-inch scorecard has wrinkles down the center from being folded, and bent upper right and lower right corners. The back cover features a color illustration of Wrigley Field, “Home of “The Cubs””.
