Presented is a lot of two World Series programs, from the 1942 World Series games played at Yankee Stadium in New York, and the 1943 World Series games played at Sportsman’s Park in St. Louis, Missouri. The first item in this lot is an “Official Program” from the 1942 World Series games played at Yankee Stadium between the New York Yankees and the St. Louis Cardinals. The program features a color illustration on the front cover of a young boy wearing a baseball uniform buying War Bonds and stamps from a woman in a blue military uniform. The four-color covers feature advertisements for Camel cigarettes, Four Roses whiskey, and Lucky Strike cigarettes. There is some tearing on the back cover from tape and glue marks, otherwise this program is in excellent condition with 38 clean, crisp white glossy interior pages printed in black. World War II- specific advertisements accompany features on the Yankees and photos of the Cardinals as well as a section, on page 37, on “What to Do in an Aerial Attack” while in attendance at Yankee Stadium. The Cardinals won the 1942 World Series, 4 games to 1. The second item in this lot is a “Souvenir Program” for the 1943 World Series games played at Sportsman’s Park in St. Louis. The four cover pages are printed in red and blue on white glossy stock, while the 32 interior pages are printed in black on white paper. The cover features an American flag motif of stars and stripes with a shield promoting “1943 World Series Cardinals Yankees”. World War II-themed advertisements accompany features on the home town Cardinals, along with a colorful ad on the inside front cover for Alpen Brau Beer which features a cartoon image of Adolph Hitler being hectored by a red Cardinal with the caption, “Listen to the Red Bird, it’s telling you Victory is in the Cards but not for you, Adolph!” The New York Yankees captured the 1943 World Series, 4 games to 1 over the Cardinals.
