The 2019 National League Rookie of the Year has signed his name in silver marker on the barrel of the black enameled bat, and inscribed “‘19 Derby Champ, 57 Total HR, No Bonus Needed, Million Dollar Swing” below his signature. The New York Mets first baseman won the 2019 Major League Baseball Home Run Derby at the MLB All-Star Game on July 8, 2019 at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio. Alonso defeated Toronto Blue Jays rookie third baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. 23-22 in the final round, becoming only the second rookie, after Aaron Judge, to win the Derby outright. On his way to the final round, Alonso also beat Carlos Santana and Ronald Acuna Jr., hitting 57 total homers during the entire Derby. The bat features a blue, green, yellow, orange and red illustration of Halley’s Comet, here described as “Haley’s Comet” in red letters on the bat’s handle. The bat is engraved in red “PA20 – AXE- s 34/32 ProSelect Maine Yellow Birch” along with an engraved reproduction of Alonso’s signature. The bat is inscribed “19/20” in silver marker at the end of the barrel.
