During the 1980s and 90s “Mr. Padre” Tony Gwynn was the undisputed hit king of the National League. 1999 found Gwynn recording his 3,000th career hit, ensuring his place alongside baseball’s immortals. His 1999 Rawlings 279H model bat is un-cracked and shows heavy use. PSA/DNA has opined that due to the random contact areas this may have been Gwynn’s batting practice bat. There is slight checking from repeated ball contact on the back barrel and there are many ball marks and stitch impressions throughout. Black ink transfers abound, and cleat imprints are present. The handle has been taped to enhance the grip and the knob has been stamped with the model “279H,” order number “933,” and year “99.” The player number “31” and “Gwynn” are handwritten on the knob in black ink along with the weight and length. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B07689) for the game use.
