After marrying Lyndon B. Johnson in 1934 when he was a political hopeful in Austin Texas, Lady Bird Johnson used a modest inheritance to bankroll his congressional campaign and then ran his office while he served in the Navy. She bought a radio station, and, later, a television station which generated revenues that made the Johnsons into millionaires.  She received the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest honors bestowed upon a US civilian.

This lot includes three photographs.  The first is a photograph of Lyndon and Lady Bird Johnson in front of the Statue of Liberty that is matted and has been signed in the matting by both the President and first Lady.  An inscription penned in the hand of first Lady, Lady Bird Johnson reads, “To Mr. and Mrs. Steve Martini, With our best wishes, Christmas 1965” in black ink.  This is a very rare dual signed item during Johnson’s presidency.  The second item in the lot is a framed cartoon photograph, which depicts barber Steve Martini, LBJ and what could be Presidential Candidate Richard Nixon as the piece also reads “The Ordeal ’68 Philadelphia Inquirer”  The black and white photo has been signed by Lyndon Baines Johnson with a greeting that reads, “For Steve Martini, The Best, From His Friend, Lyndon Baines Johnson”.  The third item in the lot is a photograph of “The Ordeal ‘68” similar to the signed copy however this copy is not framed nor signed.  The signed photographs in the lot are accompanied by individual LOAs from Beckett Authentication.  The entire lot is accompanied by a letter of provenance by Steve Martini Jr, son of White House barber Steve Martini.
