After the Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers agreed to a trade in principle that would have had Alex Rodriguez sent to Boston and Manny Ramirez sent to Texas prior to the start of the 2004 season, the much-publicized trade fell apart when the Major League Baseball Players Union wouldn’t sanction Rodriguez lowering the value of his contract. Shortly after the trade broke down, Yankees’ third baseman and ALCS Game 7 hero Aaron Boone injured his knee that was going to keep him out of most of, if not all, of the 2004 season.

This opened the door for the New York Yankees to jump in and the big-spending club had no hesitation in acquiring the best player in the game – which they did. A-Rod even agreed to move from his Gold Glove winning shortstop position to third base out of respect for incumbent shortstop Derek Jeter. With Rodriguez in the Yankees’ fold, the Bombers embarked on the 2004 season.

Offered here is a New York Yankees hooded sweatshirt worn by Alex Rodriguez during his debut season in the Bronx of 2004. This Majestic gray sweatshirt is a size XL and features “2004 MLB PLAYOFFS”, “NEW YORK YANKEES” in navy and “AUTHENTIC COLLECTIION” in red, all printed on the front. The MLB logo is also screen-printed above the lettering and the Majestic logo is printed in navy below. There is a single pocket along the waist and the Majestic tag, along with the “80% COTTON 20% POLYESTER” flag is sewn on the inside back collar. Rodriguez’s number “13” is handwritten in black marker on the Cotton/Polyester flag. The sweatshirt displays moderate use and Rodriguez has signed his name in blue marker across the front and inscribed “2004 Game Used”. This sweatshirt comes with a LOA from Elite signed by Rodriguez stating that this item was used during the 2004 playoffs and a LOA from JSA (BB08554) for Rodriguez’s signature.
