Used during one of Gary Sheffield’s two seasons in Detroit, this Rawlings bat helped the big slugger get within one home run of the vaunted 500 mark. He would finally reach that magic number at the beginning of the ’09 season. The Rawlings 170B model bat is un-cracked and shows outstanding use. Numerous ball marks and stitch impressions cover the barrel along with white leather ball scuffs and blue ink transfers. Cleat marks are found on the left and back barrel. The handle has been wrapped with adhesive tape to enhance the grip and a moderate coat of pine tar applied. The bat’s specs are stamped into the knob and Sheff’s number “3” and the Tigers weight code “-“ are handwritten on both ends in silver marker. The Tigers slugger has signed the barrel in silver marker adding, “Game Used 2008.” This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B18409) for the game use and has been graded a perfect GU 10 and a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A23666) for the signature.
