Offered is a Glenn S. “Pop” Warner signature on a handwritten note on his personal stationery dated January 22, 1935. One of the leading figures in the early days of the sport of football, Warner has signed his name “Glenn S. Warner” in black pen on the 7¼ x 8½-inch cut white sheet of his letterhead. The letterhead reads “Glenn S. Warner 175 Madrono Ave Palo Alto, Calif.” In black type below a “GSW” monogram in a football. In the letter, Warner has inscribed “Best wishes and good luck to Clarence E. Kramer, Sincerely, Glenn S. Warner”, and the letter was folded in thirds. There is slight browning on the edges of the paper. Warner was a college football coach at a number of schools including Georgia, Cornell, Pittsburgh, Stanford and Temple, and was responsible for several key innovations to the modern game, including the single and double wing, the three-point stance and the body blocking technique. Fellow pioneer coach Amos Alonzo Stagg called Warner "one of the excellent creators". He was inducted as a coach into the College Football Hall of Fame as part of its inaugural class in 1951. He also contributed to a junior football program which became known as Pop Warner Little Scholars, a still-popular youth American football organization. This item comes with a LOA from JSA (BB68092).
