Presented is a 1927 Bob Meusel signed New York Yankees payroll check, which also features the signatures of Yankees business manager Ed Barrow and owner Jacob Ruppert. The former Yankees outfielder has signed his name in black pen on the endorsement line on the back of the white paper September 30, 1927 check, which is in the amount of $1,224.95. The front of the check features black type and red and white stamped text. Barrow has signed his name at the front left margin of the check in black pen, while Ruppert has signed his name in black pen in the front lower right corner. Meusel played left field and right field for 11 Major League Baseball seasons from 1920 through 1930, all but the last for the Yankees. He was best known as a member of the Yankees' championship teams of the 1920s, nicknamed "Murderer’s Row", during which time the team won its first six American League pennants and first three World Series titles. Meusel, noted for his strong outfield throwing arm, batted fifth behind Hall of Famers Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. In 1925, he became the second Yankee, after Ruth, to lead the AL in home runs (33), RBI (138) and extra base hits (79). Nicknamed "Long Bob" because of his 6-foot, 3 inch (1.91 m) stature, Meusel batted .313 or better in seven of his first eight seasons, finishing with a .309 career average; his 1,009 RBI during the 1920s were the fourth most by any major leaguer, This item has been authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA (83876748) and the signatures are graded Authentic.
