Jimmy Douglas was a goalie for the United States national soccer team in the late 1920’s and up to the inaugural World Cup in 1930. Douglas earned nine caps for the Americans, getting his first appearance in the 1924 Summer Olympics. Douglas would earn the first ever clean sheet (shutout) for the United States in the 1930 FIFA World Cup where he and the U.S. made it all the way to the semi-finals. Highlights from Douglas’ international career include a 1-0 shutout win over Estonia in the 1924 Olympics, where he was named the game’s MVP. The 1930 FIFA World Cup saw Douglas and the U.S. shutout both Belgium and Paraguay before falling to Argentina in the semis. To this day, this is the farthest the US National Soccer Team has reached in the World Cup.

Offered here are a pair of game use cleats and the original leather box to house those cleats that were used by Jimmy Douglas. These black leather cleats display heavy game and age wear. These cleats have a unique design with three studs on each heel and the rest of the bottom flat. These shoes still have their white laces and there is cracking and surface wear throughout the top. The leather bos has its original handle with a buckle strap and fits both of the cleats. Like the shoes, this box displays heavy wear due to aging. The outsides are laced together. A great piece of American soccer history dating back to the infancy of the program. These cleats come from the Rony Almeida Collection.
