This offered New York Yankees payroll check has been signed by George Pipgras, “The Danish Viking”, who played 11 seasons with the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox. Pipgras pitched to a 4.09 ERA and a 102-73 record in those 11 seasons. The check offered here was from the 1924 season, his second year with the Yankees and made payable to “GEORGE W. PIPGRASS”. Please note the spelling of “PIPGRASS” on the front with the extra “S”. Pipgras signed his name on the back in faded black pen. The back of this check lists “Salary to June 15th” and the check amount is $270.85 and dated to “June 21st” 1924 with “The American League Base Ball Club of New York, Inc.” printed on the top. The check number is 7329 and there are holes from when the check cleared and has also been signed by Yankees’ owner Jacob Ruppert and general manager Ed Barrow, both Hall of Famers. This check is in good overall condition and comes with a LOA from JSA for the signatures.
