Clyde Drexler was one of the most explosive players to ever play the game. Growing up in Houston, Drexler stayed at home for college, joining the University of Houston, where they appeared in 1983 NCAA title game. Drexler was part of the famed “Phi Slamma Jamma” squad that brought the aerial game to the NCAA. Drexler was selected with the 14th overall pick in the 1983 NBA Draft by the Portland Trail Blazers, where he spent 11+ seasons in the Pacific Northwest.
Drexler was also one of the elite players selected for the 1992 Dream Team that demolished the Olympic competition in Barcelona, Spain, earning the Gold Medal for the United States. Drexler made his return to the Houston Rockets in the spring of 1995, returning home and joining with fellow Hall of Famer and former college teammate Hakeem Olajuwon to lead the Rockets to their second-consecutive NBA title.
Offered here is a game used road Rockets jersey that was worn by Drexler during the 1997-98 season – his final season of his Hall of Fame career. “ROCKETS” appears across the chest of the jersey in glittery silver-and-white on red tackle twill with “DREXLER” across the back in white-on-red tackle twill. Drexler’s number “22” appears on both the right chest and back of the jersey in white-and-silver on red tackle twill. A “Starter” manufacturer’s tag is stitched on the front tail of the jersey that reads “Designed And Tailored Exclusively For The HOUSTON ROCKETS BY STARTER” and includes size “48” and “97/98 flags along with "DREXLER" being sewn into the Starter "Player ID" area of the tagging. The NBA logo is embroidered on the upper left chest and the open arms and collar are bordered with red/white/red stripes. This jersey comes with a LOA from MEARS (317043), have given this jersey its highest grade of A10, plus a letter of provenance Cristy Nordstrom, the widow of former Rockets Equipment Manager David Nordstrom, who worked for the team from 1977 until 1998 and states that this jersey was acquired during his career with the Rockets and was passed to her.
