That special quality – perhaps in the case of Mickey Mantle's rookie card to a greater extent than in any other collectible – adds satisfaction to the experience of ownership. The prospect of taking possession of this much-coveted '52 Topps "High Number" inspires sheer exhilaration in the mind of the fortunate enthusiast, and the sight of white borders surrounding a clear and spellbinding image – as observed in the offered copy – contributes additional intensity to the contemplative hobbyist's already heightened anticipation. Natural wear is discernible at the card's corners, and surface abrasion in varying degrees is apparent at the bottom-left corner and near the center on the reverse. The sum of the piece's attributes, however, and the totality of its aesthetic presentation, remain laudatory. Although a number of the hobby's Mantle rookies claim higher numerical grades, not all specimens evoke gratification at the level triggered by the example presented here. Here's one of the hobby's most storied treasures, in attainable and infrequently obtainable Good-plus condition.
