Offered in this lot are three medals from the career of Jose Nasazzi, the decorated captain of the Uruguay National Soccer Team in the 1920’s and 1930’s. The first medal is an incredibly rare offering from Nasazzi’s first season as a pro soccer player, with Lito in 1918. Nasazzi played several seasons with Lito before earning widespread acclaim with Bella Vista and Nacional. This medal is silver in color and irregularly shaped, with a high relief etching of a matronly figure patting the head of a young soccer player. Etched on the back of the middle is “C.A. Lito / -A- / Jose Nasazzi / 1918”.

The second and third medals in this lot originate from Uruguay’s 1930 FIFA World Cup championship. Nasazzi captained the club to victory in the tournament, sweeping aside Argentina 4-2 in the final match. The first medal from the 1930 World Cup is rectangular, with Estadio Centenario’s torre de los homenajes etched in high relief on the front above a soccer pitch. Etched on the reverse side of this medal is “A.U. de F. / -A- / Jose Nasazzi / Montevideo / 1930”.

The final medal in this lot is brown and circular, with a high relief etching of two soccer players on the front. Etched on the back is “Consejo / De La / A.U. de F. / A / Jose Nasazzi / Capitan / Mundial / 1930”. These medals are all in estimable condition.
