Hall of Famer Dave Winfield broke into the Majors with the San Diego Padres in 1973 as a 21-year-old and appeared in 56 games for the Padres. Winfield showed flashes of what was to come as he hit a solid .277 with 3 home runs and 12 RBI. Winfield would retire following the 1995 season with 3,110 hits and 465 home runs, earning him his spot in Cooperstown on his first ballot in 2001.
Offered here is a very rare first season Hillerich & Bradsby K55 model bat. This bat displays excellent game use with a crack on the barrel. There are ball marks, stitch impressions and checking or grain swelling from repeated ball contact present on the barrel. There are remnants of pine tar on the handle and the model number “K55” is stamped on the knob. Adding to this already impressive bat is the black marker signature of Dave Winfield, who signed his name on the barrel between the Hillerich & Bradsby trademark and the Dave Winfield stamped signature. Winfield also added his 1974 stats when he inscribed “1974 Padres .265 BA 20 HR 75 RBI”. One of the nicest Winfield bats on the market and one of the earliest ever offered. This comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B16837) for the game use and has been graded a near-perfect GU 9.5. There is also a LOA from Beckett Authentication for the signature.
