Graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. Among more than 260 copies recorded in PSA’s census reporting, just thirteen examples have attained a higher tier. Although the 1952 Topps set is most famous for the contents of its rare "High Number" series, the one of the issue's cards that seems to appear on wantlists with the most predictable regularity is that of Johnny Sain. Card number 49, featuring the Yankee pitcher, was originally produced with the biography of fellow hurler Joe Page transposed onto the reverse. Page's reverse text appeared on the back of Sain's card, as on the offered example, and vice versa. The error was apparently caught quite early in the production run, thus creating the scarce variation. This example is extremely presentable, with bright, uninterrupted color decorating its front as well as corners and centering that handily conform to the item's favorable grade. The solidly printed Black Back reverse is pleasing to the eye and, to the delight of the advanced collector, refers repeatedly to "Joe" in its text. Excellent to Mint condition.
