John Riggins will forever be remembered as a Washington Redskin and leading them to their first Super Bowl victory in SB XVII over the Miami Dolphins. He rushed for a then record 166 yards in the game earning him Super Bowl MVP honors. The LOA from 100% Authentic (dated 11/6/2003) reads "1982 John Riggins Game Worn Helmet. The shell is an impregnated burgundy with classic white and yellow center striping, and unique "curved feathers" logo used only in 1983. Includes yellow full cage as worn by Riggins, and rare yellow clips. Number "44" is on the lower back outer shell-the font, mil depth, placement, and perimeter cutting are all correct and perfect. The outer shell is missing the warning sticker, but retains its original chin strap. The original leather jaw pads are also present and the shell's interior has classic "pac-3" padding system by Riddell. Riggins' identifiers appear over both ear holes. No fewer then five reconditioning stickers are present (some incomplete), and a time clock dated "June 1975" appears above the right ear hole. The level of wear is consistent both inside and out. This helmet was used throughout the late 1970's and early 1980's. The single year outer Redskins logos definitely date its final season of use to 1983'. The helmet face mask is intact but detached. Multiple images and Full LOAs available at goldinauctions.com.
