Graded NM 7 by PSA. Hall of Famer. Acting as a marvelous historical summary, this superb Mantle card lists the full span of the legend's career statistics on its brightly printed reverse side. The final piece, in a cherished continuum of collectibles begun in 1951, the '69 Topps Mantle is an item of particular fascination for the condition-conscious hobbyist. Although it's the most recent entry in the 19-year assembly, the 1969 card, because of its tendency toward poor centering and its sensitive corners, is also one of the toughest. And none more so than the elusive White Last Name variety seen here. Offered is a sparkling example of the scarce variation without which no 1969 Topps set, or serious Mantle collection, is truly complete. This specimen exhibits praiseworthy alignment of its snow white borders, which are capped at their ends by boldly shaped corners. Resolution of the cardfront's photo, which gifts nostalgists with a last look at the left-handed batting posture that helped to produce so many big numbers, is magnificent. The gleaming caption circle at upper left delivers fresh and unmistakable depth in its red, black and white elements – with no yellow in sight. Very sharp Near Mint condition.
