“The Iron Horse” Lou Gehrig has signed and inscribed this stunning 3 x 5-inch index card featuring a die cut headshot of the seven-time World Series champion. Gehrig and Babe Ruth formed the core of the New York Yankees title machine in the 1920’s and 1930’s, with the two men combining for 1,152 home runs as members of the Yankees. While Ruth’s home runs were parabolic bombs that scraped the clouds, Gehrig’s hits almost always came in the form of a screaming line drive, destined for the stands in the time it took to say “gone”. While Gehrig was known as a power hitter, his discipline at the plate would have made his teammate and fellow Hall of Famer Joe Sewell blush, with Gehrig’s career walk numbers almost twice his strikeouts. Tragically, Gehrig’s career came to an end in 1939, and the former Columbia standout was inducted into the Hall of Fame in a special election in 1939.

This offered index card features a die cut black and white headshot of Lou Gehrig. Gehrig is pictured with a cheerful smile, the dimples on his cheek forming in an expression of contented joy. Gehrig has signed the index card in black marker, inscribing “Best Wishes Donald” above his classic and iconic signature. Printed on the top of the index card in black text is “Autograph Collection / of / Donald D. Cram”. This historic 3 x 5-inch cut has been encapsulated and graded a perfect GEM MINT 10 by Beckett Authentication Services.
