Offered is a New York Mets box seat placard from Shea Stadium. The placard consists of an “L”-shaped 13-inch length of 1¼-inch copper pipe painted orange, with a 1¾ x 5-inch gold metal plate engraved “126 C” across the center. The lower “L” pipe is 6-inches. Mounted below the 13-inch length of pipe is a 3 x 10-inch metal placard, bolted to the pipe with three screws, and painted orange. On the front of the metal placard is a 2 x 9-inch blue plastic plate with white lettering with the legend “Shea Stadium 1964-2008” secured to the placard with two gold metal screws. The orange paint is worn away at the edges exposing the original pipe and revealing several layers of orange paint. The Shea Stadium seat placard is displayed on a 1½ x 3½ x 15¾-inch brown wood base with six brown rubber mounts on the underside. Shea Stadium was located in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park, Queens, New York City. Built as a multi-purpose stadium and dedicated at the opening of the 1965 New York World’s Fair, it was the home park of Major League Baseball's New York Mets for 45 seasons (1964–2008), as well as the New York Jets football team from 1964 to 1983. The venue was named in honor of William A. Shea, the man who was most responsible for bringing National League baseball back to New York after the Dodgers and Giants left for California in 1957. It was demolished in 2009 to create additional parking for the adjacent Citi Field, Shea's replacement and the current home of the Mets.
