Encapsulated and assessed "Authentic" by SGC, the lone specimen holdered by that company. Hall of Famer. Here's an incredibly rare, historically significant prize. This is a proof card that features a formative incarnation of a Babe Ruth image that originated with Goudey Gum Co. in 1933. The fascinating, blank-backed piece delivers a portrayal that closely replicates the original artist's sketch, but which has only been printed with the dark blue, final overlay. This factory relic has been responsibly hand-cut to approximate a fully dimensioned, as-issued card. Inevitably, a mild degree of toning has affected the cardstock over time, but the card retains sharp, captivating detail. In fact, the design projects a crispness in imagery that was not accomplished in the commercial issue. This is an outstanding proof piece from a revered issue that is extremely desirable in its finished form, and simply compelling when viewed in this pre-production mode.
