Offered is the 1955 Collier’s magazine 1955 All-America trophy presented to LaSalle’s Tom Gola. The Dieges & Clust sculpted silver metal trophy features a 4 x 4 x 13-inch statue of a basketball player shooting a basketball with two hands and is highly detailed particularly in the face and hands. The statue is mounted on a 4-inch high, 7-inch circular, hollow black plastic base with a 1¾ x 5¼-inch silver metal plaque engraved with the legend “Collier’s 1955 All-America Tom Gola LaSalle”. The basketball held by the player in the trophy is worn on the front, otherwise the trophy is in excellent condition. Gola is widely considered one of the greatest NCAA basketball players of all-time and was one of the most talented collegiate athletes in Philadelphia sports history. He came to national attention while playing for his hometown La Salle Explorers team. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1976.
