New Orleans Pelicans forward and generational talent Zion Williamson wore this white Association Edition Pelicans jersey on January 26th, 2020 against the Boston Celtics at Smoothie King Center. Williamson, playing in his third NBA game, recorded the first double-double of his career in New Orleans’ 123-108 victory over Boston, dropping 21 points while shooting over 50% from the field with 11 rebounds. The former Duke Blue Devil added two assists and a steal as he continued his accelerated NBA development after missing the first 44 games of his rookie campaign. Williamson did the bulk of his damage in an active first half, scoring nine points and grabbing seven rebounds as New Orleans returned to their locker room with a comfortable 62-42 halftime lead.
Zion’s rookie season exceeded the lofty expectations thrust on the South Carolina native, as Williamson averaged 22.5 points and 6.3 rebounds while shooting 58.3% overall and 42.9% from distance. Importantly, Williamson found consistency early in his NBA career. The 6’6” lefty scored in double-figures in all but one of his 24 rookie season games despite not turning 20 until New Orleans entered the Bubble.
