For New York Mets fans, 1986 was one of the most memorable seasons in the franchise’s history. While the 1969 team provided the city with a “Miracle” win, not only in catching the Cubs in the regular season and then defeating the heavily favored Orioles in the World Series, the 1986 team provided their own miracle, by defeating the Boston Red Sox when their backs were against the wall facing elimination in Game 6 and down to their last strike. The miracle comeback was capped off when Mookie Wilson’s groundball scooted through the legs of Bill Buckner to win Game 6 and New York had another come-from-behind win in Game 7 to close out the series. The Mets had finished with the best record in baseball during the regular season with a franchise best 108-54 record and fought off the pesky Houston Astros in the NLCS to reach the World Series for only the third time in team history. Offered in this lot is a stunning commemorative black bat bearing the facsimile signatures of the 1986 Mets players engraved on the bat. There is also text that reads “NEW YORK METS WORLD CHAMPIONS 1986” in green on the bat. The remaining player names and the inscription are rendered in gold and green ink.
