Ya Gotta Believe! The New York Mets were only in their 8th season of existence when they shocked the Chicago Cubs, the Baltimore Orioles, and the baseball world by winning the 1969 World Series. After mounting one of the great late-season comebacks in baseball history to surge past the slumping Chicago Cubs and win the NL East crown, the Mets swept the Atlanta Braves 3-0 in the NLCS to win their first National League Pennant and a berth in the World Series. Very few gave the Mets a chance, as the Baltimore Orioles squad they were set to face boasted a powerhouse lineup that included Frank Robinson, Brooks Robinson, Boog Powell and Paul Blair, two 20-game winners in Dave McNally and Mike Cuellar, and a 24-year old 16-game winner named Jim Palmer. The Amazin’s were on a mission, however, as they took 4 of 5 from the O’s in winning their 1st World Series title and earning the nickname “The Miracle Mets”. Offered in this lot is a stunning commemorative black bat that was presented to former owner and Hall of Famer Bill Veeck. This bat has the facsimile signatures of the 1969 Mets players engraved on the bat. There is also text that reads “NEW YORK METS WORLD CHAMPIONS 1969” in green on the bat. The player names and the inscription are rendered in gold and green ink. This comes with a LOA from the family of the late Bill Veeck authenticating that this bat was presented to him.
