1960 would serve as a pivotal year in baseball as Hall of Famer Ted Williams played his final season in the Majors, going out in style with a home run in his last at-bat on September 28th. 1960 would also be the last season Casey Stengel managed the New York Yankees, although Stengel’s last game was the famous Game 7 walk-off home run by Hall of Famer Bill Mazeroski. Stengel finished his Yankee managerial career with 10 AL pennants and 7 World Series titles and had a 1,149-696 record in 12 seasons at the helm. The Yankees did win the American League with a 97-57 record with Mantle and Maris leading the way with 40 and 39 home runs respectively. Offered in this lot is a stunning commemorative black bat bearing the facsimile signatures of the 1960 Yankees players engraved on the bat. There is also text that reads “NEW YORK YANKEES AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 1960” in faded green on the bat. The player names and the inscription are rendered in gold and faded green ink.
