2020 Late December Auction Closing January 3
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 1/3/2021
In a strange, strike shortened 1981 season, the New York Yankees qualified for the playoffs by virtue of winning the American League East in the first half of the season, setting up a playoff matchup with the second half champion Milwaukee Brewers. The Yanks won the Division Series in five games, and went on to sweep the Oakland A’s in the ALCS, before falling in six games to a familiar World Series foe, the Los Angeles Dodgers. Offered in this lot is a stunning commemorative black bat that has the facsimile signatures of the 1981 Yankees players engraved on the bat. There is also text that reads “NEW YORK YANKEES AMERICAN CHAMPIONS 1981” in green on the bat. The player names and the inscription are rendered in gold and green ink.
