Offered is a 2015 Robert McClelland hand-drawn diagram of the bullet wound that killed U.S. President John F. Kennedy in Dallas on November 22, 1963. In 1963, the Parkland Hospital surgeon worked unsuccessfully to save the life of Kennedy he was fatally shot, and, two days later, the life of Kennedy's assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald. His hand-drawn diagram with captions is in blue marker on 8½ x 11-inch white bond paper and is signed by McClelland in the lower center. His diagram indicated a “5x5 inch exit wound at the back of Kennedy’s head, along with the “probable entrance wound on the right side o the hairline”, as well as the “Small bullet wound low in the neck” and the “small exit wound in the back” of the neck. The diagram is captioned “President Kennedy’s Bullet Wounds” and is dated “Feb. 12, 2015”. On November 22, 1963, McClelland was working at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas, when Kennedy was brought in grievously injured. Despite the efforts of the three attending surgeons (McClelland, Malcolm Perry and Charles R. Baxter), he died shortly after arriving. McClelland was the only member of Kennedy's surgical team who supported the idea that Kennedy had been shot from the front, thus the idea that there was a second gunman. Two days later, McClelland saw on the news that Kennedy's assassin Lee Harvey Oswald had been shot; McClelland immediately went back to the hospital. Along with George Shires, McClelland worked unsuccessfully to save Oswald's life, as he was pronounced dead two hours after being shot. McClelland preserved his blood-stained shirt from attempting to save President Kennedy for the rest of his life. This item comes with a COA from JSA (JJ15413).
