In 1972 the Oakland Athletics began the first great baseball dynasty of the 1970s. They won World Series in 1972, 1973, and 1974, riding an incredible pitching staff and a scrappy band of hitters led by Reggie Jackson to nigh-unprecedented success. In 1972, both of the A’s playoff series went the distance, with a 3-2 series victory over the Detroit Tigers preceding a seven-game victory over the Cincinnati Reds in the World Series. With the exception of Game 6, an 8-1 Reds victory, each game in the World Series was decided by one run. Offered in this lot is a stunning commemorative Hillerich & Bradsby black bat featuring the 1972 World Series Oakland A’s. This bat has the facsimile signatures of the 1975 Reds’ players engraved on the bat. There is also text that reads “OAKLAND ATHLETICS WORLD CHAMPIONS 1972” in green on the bat. The player names and the inscription are rendered in gold and green ink.
