Offered in this lot are four World Series programs featuring the New York Yankees in the 1930’s. The first program is from 1932 and went for steal of twenty-five cents back in 1932, upon looking even closer it appears as if the Yankee’s shadow is a step ahead of the soon to be, “SAFE!” call, possibly foreshadowing a New York series victory. Inside we find player portraits from both squads, the first two being Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. During Game 3 of this World Series legend and myth collided, it was the top of the 5th inning when Babe Ruth stepped up to the plate, pointed his bat to the stands, and knocked a home run over the center field fence, forever known as Ruth’s, “called shot.” This series also marked the first time that both teams wore numbers on the back of their uniforms. The Yankees would go on to sweep the series, defeating the Cubs four games to none in the 1932 World Series. There is a crease down the center and some edgewear and this has been scored in pencil.

The second program is from the 1936 World Series played between the New York Giants and the New York Yankees features a fantastic color cover with a batter swinging away as he is facing a giant, “buffalo nickel,” which was a design based on a bison that had lived at the Central Park Zoo in New York City. Also, presented on the cover is a rendering of the New York City Skyline done in purple, set in front of an orange skyline. Inside the program are black and white head shots of players from both teams with player bios attached to them. This World Series marked the first Yankees appearance without Babe Ruth and their first with Joe DiMaggio. The Yankees would go on to defeat the Giants 4 games to 2 to win the 1936 World Series. This program is unscored and displays edge wear. The third program is from a 1937 World Series game played in the Polo Grounds for either Game 4 or 5. This is due to pencil markings indicating Hank Leiber starting in centerfield for the Giants, which he did in both those games. The Yankees beat the Giants for the second straight World Series title, and second of four straight championships. This program is in good condition, displaying edge wear.

The final program is from the 1938 World Series where the Yankees vanquished the overmatched Chicago Cubs in the four-game sweep, the Yankees third consecutive World Series championship. The artwork on the 8 ½ x 11-inch program is on white paper, with a pitcher wearing a light blue cap, yellow uniform and orange fielding glove, while a purple background features red silhouette images of a batter, catcher and umpire. There is a red border across the top of the program cover and halfway down either side of the page framing the image, while below the image the words “1938 World Series” are in red letters, “Yankees vs Cubs” in black letters, and “Official Program 25c” are in red letters. This program has been scored in pencil and based on the scoring, this dates to Game 3, which the Yankees won 5-2. This program is in good overall condition and has been scored in pencil.
