Any Cal Ripken game used bat is something to behold, however a bat used by the Orioles legend to hit two home runs in the same game it another level entirely. This bat was used during the September 15, 1996 game against Detroit in which Cal hit two of his 431 career home runs. The first came in the top of the 1st, a 3-run blast to deep left off Todd Van Poppel, and the second was an 8th inning solo shot to deep left off Brian Williams. The last one was hit with such force that it broke the handle of the bat. The Louisville Slugger P72 model bat shows great game use with a handle crack. The barrel displays many ball marks, two of which are from Cal’s two round tripper hit in that 1996 game. There are scuffs and dings found on both ends from contact with the ground and a moderate coat of pine tar is found on the handle. A strip of white tape has been affixed to the barrel that reads, “9-15-96 2 HRs vs Det Broken Bat Homer vs Williams.” This duel homer bat has been complimented by a flawless Cal Ripken, Jr. signature on the barrel with “9-15-96 2 Homers.” This bat comes with a LOA from Cal Ripken, Jr. and PSA/DNA (1B19671) for the game use and has been graded a perfect GU 10 by PSA/DNA, plus a certificate from Beckett Authentication stating they witnessed Cal Ripken, Jr. signing this item.
