Cal Ripken, Jr. said goodbye to Baltimore’s Memorial Stadium by recording his finest season in the old ballpark. The Orioles icon belted 34 home runs with a .323 average while claiming his first Gold Glove Award. In that summer’s All-Star Game, Cal went 2-for-3 with a 3-run homer that earned him the game’s MVP Award. By the end of the season, it was only natural that the O’s Iron Man should have the AL’s MVP Award bestowed upon him as well, the second such honor of his Hall of Fame-bound career. This Orioles home jersey was donned by Cal during the MVP season. The Iron Man’s white home jersey has “Orioles” across the front in orange and black tackle twill above his famed number “8” in the same colors. The sleeve ends are trimmed in orange and clack ribbing and a Rawlings size 48 label with “SET 2 1991 1 INCH EXTRA LENGTH” hand tag is sewn inside the left front tail. The back features “RIPKEN” in orange and black tackle twill on a white name plate above his number “8” in identical colors. The jersey shows light use with some toning from age as well as some fading of the graphics from frequent laundering. The 2-time MVP has signed the front of the jersey in bold black marker. This jersey comes with a LOA from Cal Ripken, Jr. for the game use and signature and a certificate from Beckett Authentication stating they witnessed Cal Ripken, Jr. signing this item.
