Hall of Famer Cal Ripken had his breakout season in 1983 when he not only took home the American League MVP with his stellar season in which he led the AL with 211 hits and 121 runs scored, but also led the Baltimore Orioles to a World Series title. Ripken also belted 27 home runs and drove in 102 runs, while maintaining a lofty .318 average and earned his first of his 19 consecutive All-Star Game selections.

Offered here is one of the jerseys worn by baseball’s Iron Man during his championship and MVP season of 1983. This jersey has been photo matched by Resolution Photomatching to an undated image from the 1983 World Series, along with an image from the September 16th, 1983 game. Sports Investors Authentication has also photo matched this jersey to several games of the 1983 regular season. This is a home white button-down jersey that was manufactured by Rawlings. “Orioles” is scripted across the chest in sewn-on orange and black tackle twill. Ripken’s iconic number “8” is sewn on the center left chest in the same orange and black tackle twill. The Rawlings size 44 tag is sewn on the inside front left tail with attached “SET 1 1983” and “3” EXTRA LENGTH” flags. The sleeves are trimmed with 2-inch black/white/orange knit trim, while the collar is trimmed with 1-inch orange and black knit material. The back of the jersey has “RIPKEN” sewn on in orange and black tackle twill that has been sewn on a matching white nameplate, while Ripken’s number “8” is sewn on in orange and black tackle twill.

The jersey displays heavy game use with signs of multiple washings. The fabric garment has weathered so it is thinner and softer than it was when new with the white color displaying a cream-colored look. All of the lettering has loose and frayed edges with puckering and minor fading present. The jersey is unaltered with all of the letters and numbers original to the jersey and there is an addition of a seventh button on the bottom being a custom feature. This jersey comes with a full LOA from noted game used baseball jersey expert William Henderson for the game use and a LOA from Resolution Photomatching, who have photo matched this jersey to an undated image from the 1983 World Series and the September 16th, 1983 game and Sports Investors Authentication, who have photo matched this jersey to Game 1 of the 1983 ALCS on October 5th, 1983, plus multiple regular season games.
