Presented is a Charles Robertson signed cut in a framed collage display featuring a photograph of the former Chicago White Sox pitcher. Robertson signed “Charles C. Robertson” in blue pen and inscribed “4-30-29” above his signature and “4-30-75” below on a 1½ x 3¼-inch white paper cut. The Robertson-signed cut is mounted in the lower center of a white with black accents matte. Above the cut is a 7¼ x 10-inch (visible) black & white portrait photo of Robertson in a “Sox” uniform and cap. The Robertson cut and photo are displayed in a 13¼ x 20¾-inch black wood with glass frame. Robertson began his career with the Chicago White Sox in 1919 at the age of 23, and played for Chicago (1919, 1922-1925), the St. Louis Browns (1926) and the Boston Braves (1927-1928). On April 30, 1922, in just his fourth career start, Robertson pitched the fifth perfect game in Major League Baseball history against the Detroit Tigers at Navin Field (later known as Tiger Stadium) in Detroit. He became the first pitcher in major league history to throw a perfect game on the road. The Detroit lineup featured such Hall of Famers as Ty Cobb and Harry Heilmann, who both complained that he was doctoring the ball throughout the game. No pitcher would equal the feat after Robertson for another 34 years, until Don Larsen in the 1956 World Series; the next regular season perfect game would not come until Jim Bunning's perfect game in 1964. This item comes with a LOA from Beckett Authentication.
