Offered is a Claire Ruth signed, inscribed and framed photograph of the widow of the late Hall of Fame New York Yankees star posed with her husband on the third base line of Yankee Stadium. Claire Ruth has inscribed “To Mark With best Wishes Mrs. Babe Ruth” in purple marker in the lower left margin of the 8 x 11-inch (visible) black and white photo cut from a magazine. She is sitting in a box seat in a fur with hat at the left of the photo, while her husband leans on the wall in front of her with his right elbow, Yankees cap in his right hand, wearing a Yankees home pinstriped uniform on the field in front of the box. The Mrs. Ruth signed photo is displayed in a 9½ x 12-inch black wood with gold metal accent and glass frame. Claire's first husband, Frank Hodgson, died February 16, 1921, leaving her with a daughter, Julia. She met Ruth in 1923. Ruth was still married to Helen Woodford, his first wife, at this time. Woodford died in a house fire in January 1929, and Ruth and Hodgson married that April 17, staying together until Ruth's death in 1948. Claire lived to see two of Ruth's most famous records broken: his single season record of 60 home runs, superseded by Roger Maris in 1961; and his career record of 714 home runs, which was broken by Hank Aaron in 1974. Claire Ruth, who died in 1976, is buried next to her husband at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York. This item comes with a LOA from Beckett Authentication.
