2020 Late December Auction Closing January 3
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 1/3/2021
Offered is a Kent Desormeaux signed color photograph of his mount, Big Brown, crossing the finish line at the 2008 Kentucky Derby Stakes. The Hall of Fame jockey signed his name in blue marker in the right center of the photo which shows him riding Big Brown, running towards the left edge of the 16 x 20-inch photo. On May 3, 2008, in just his fourth race, Big Brown was the 2–1 favorite in the 2008 Kentucky Derby. He started from the far outside post position 20, but neither that, nor his lack of experience seemed to be a problem. At the break, Desormeaux did not push Big Brown, concentrating instead on getting good position on the first turn while settling instead behind the leaders. On the far turn, Desormeaux urged the horse and Big Brown responded with a burst of speed that swept him to the lead. He won by 4¾ lengths. The Desormeaux-signed photo of Big Brown winning the 2008 Kentucky Derby is mounted in a black matte with white accent and displayed in a 22½ x 26½-inch brown with black accents wood with glass frame. This item comes with a Steiner COA.
