Presented is a 1945 Eliot Ness signed personal check. The former United States federal law enforcement officer, renowned as the leader of “The Untouchables” of 1920s-era Chicago, signed his name “Eliot Ness” in black fountain pen in the lower right of the 2¾ x 6¼-inch pink paper check from the Riggs National Bank of Washington, D.C. Ness inscribed the date “Jan. 29 (19) 45” in the upper right, and the check number “106”, both in black fountain pen, and inscribed the payee’s name “The United States News” and the amount “2.00/100 Two + 00/100”, also in black fountain pen. Ness was an American Prohibition agent, famous for his efforts to bring down Al Capone and enforce the Volstead Act’s prohibition of the sale of alcohol in Chicago, Illinois, as well as being the leader of a famous team of law enforcement agents from Chicago, nicknamed “The Untouchables”. His co-authorship of a popular autobiography, “The Untouchables”, which was released shortly after his 1957 death, launched several television and motion picture portrayals that established Ness's posthumous fame as an incorruptible crime fighter. This item comes with a LOA from Beckett Authentication.
