2020 Late December Auction Closing January 3
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 1/3/2021
Presented is a Hall of Fame New York Yankees catcher Yogi Berra and Yankees pitcher Don Larsen dual-signed photograph of the first pitch from Larsen’s “Perfect Game” in Game 5 of the 1956 World Series. Both members of the battery from that day’s contest against the Brooklyn Dodgers at Yankee Stadium have signed their names in blue marker in the lower left center of the 11 x 14-inch black & white action photo, with Larsen inscribing “PG 10-8-56” below his signature. Larsen is on the mound, the pitch is in the air, the clock on the scoreboard reads 1:01 p.m., and Berra is crouched to catch the game’s first pitch to Dodgers second baseman Jim Gilliam. The centerfield bleachers and centerfield scoreboard dominate the background of the photo, with the “Stadium Favorite Ballantine Ale Beer” sign prominent, as well as advertisements for Zenith Television and Radios, the Longines clock, and New Filter Marlboro cigarettes. Larsen's perfect game, a 2-0 Yankees victory, is the only one in the history of the World Series; it was the first one thrown in 34 years and is one of only 23 perfect games in MLB history. The dual-signed photo is mounted in a white with black accent matte and displayed in a 17 x 20-inch black plastic with clear plastic frame. This item comes with a LOA from Beckett Authentication.
