Presented is a 1986 Mookie Wilson signed and inscribed “story” photo describing his thoughts during the 1986 World Series against the Boston Red Sox, in a framed display. The former New York Mets centerfielder signed his name in silver marker in the lower left of the 20 x 30-inch (visible) color photo print depicting Wilson, in the lower right, running to first base in a Mets home uniform. Below his signature Wilson has inscribed “10/25/86”, also in silver marker. In the upper left and center of the black background of the photo print, Wilson has inscribed in silver marker “It wasn’t just Bill’s fault. 2 outs, Carter singles to left. Kevin Mitchell singles to center after putting his uniform back on. Ray Knight singles to center scoring Carter. Bob Stanley’s wild pitch scores Mitchell. I think you know the rest. The scoreboard congratulated the Red Sox prematurely. We won Game 6 We won Game 7 1986 Champs”. At the bottom right corner Wilson inscribed “BTW Paul Simon sang the anthem”. Wilson is recounting his perspective of the 1986 World Series Champion New York Mets, and his crucial role in that title. He is best remembered as the Met who hit the ground ball that rolled through Bill Buckner's legs in the bottom of the 10th inning of Game 6, allowing Ray Knight to score the winning run from second base. The play is often known as the "Buckner play" and is blamed on the first baseman, but Wilson's smart at-bat and speed also affected the course of events. (If Buckner had made that play and Wilson had been safe, Howard Johnson would have been the next batter with runners on first and third. If Wilson had been put out by Buckner, the game would have gone into an 11th inning.) The signed and inscribed print is mounted in a white matte with blue pinstripes and blue and orange accents and displayed in a 27 x 39-inch brown wood with clear plastic frame.
