The Minnesota Twins had all the pieces fall into place in 1991. Rookie Chuck Knoblauch, whose debut season in 1991 earned him the American League Rookie of the Year had a solid .281 batting average in the regular season. While his power numbers were not Ruthian, Knoblauch’s ability to get on base, set up the Twins lineup that featured Hall of Famer Kirby Puckett, along with Kent Hrbek and Chili Davis to form a potent offense. This offense was complemented perfectly by the pitching staff of Jack Morris, Kevin Tapani, and Scott Erickson as the Twins won 95 games and defeated the Toronto Blue Jays in a five-game ALCS. The 1991 World Series is regarded as a modern classic, as three of the games went to extra innings with Game 7 ending on a walk-off single. Knoblauch further stepped up his game in the postseason, batting a lofty .350 during the ALCS against the Toronto Blue Jays and added 8 more hits in the World Series while batting .308.

Offered here is the very Jackie Robinson Award presented to Chuck Knoblauch for winning the 1991 American League Rookie of the Year. This award has a wood base and is 11 x 15 inches. “JACKIE ROBINSON AWARD” is mounted across the top on a black plate with gold lettering. A “1991 ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AMERICAN LEAGUE” with crossed bats and the AL logo is in raised relief below. Centered on this award is a raised image of the famed Jackie Robinson’s direct steal of home plate in the 1955 World Series. Below is another black plate with gold lettering that reads “PRESENTED TO” with a gold plate that reads “CHUCK KNOBLAUCH MINNESOTA TWINS”. At the very bottom is this green and gold BBWAA logo in raised relief. The back of this award is covered in black felt and sticker from Herff Jones of Providence, Rhode Island is affixed on the back. This prestigious award is a one-of-kind get for the avid collector and this comes directly from the personal collection of Chuck Knoblauch.
