Offered here is an official Congressional Record dated September 22nd, 1998, only three days after Hall of Famer and baseball Iron Man Cal Ripken, Jr. took himself out of the lineup for the first time in 2,632 straight games – ending what is still and will most likely be the longest consecutive games played streak in history. This document was presented to Cal Ripken and has “Congressional Record” printed at the top and “PROCEEDINGS AND DEBATES OF THE 105th CONGRESS, SECOND SESSION” printed below. The beginning of this document simple reads “Senate” and has the heading “CAL RIPKEN’S STREAK OF PLAYING 2,632 CONSECUTIVE GAMES”. The document starts “Ms. MIKULSKI. Mr. President, Sunday, September 20, 1998 marked the end of an era in sports. Cal Ripken, baseball’s Iron Man, took a well-deserved day off. As the Baltimore Sun put it, ‘The Streak died of natural causes. It was 2,632.’ This document has been framed to a dimension of 12 x 17 inches and the brown pattered frame as a gold “U.S. House of Representatives” seal on the top. This comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. and a signed LOA from Cal will accompany this item.
