With Cal Ripken, Jr. announcing that 2001 would be his final season, opposing cities paid tribute to one of the greatest ballplayers to grace the field. Ripken played his last ever game in the city of Toronto on September 20th, 2001 and he went out a hero, going 2-for-5, including a double and 2 RBI as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Blue Jays 12-6 at SkyDome. Offered here is one of the game used bases given to Ripken following the game. This Schutte base has Ripken’s number “8” in big font across the top in orange with black borders. Two sides have Ripken’s number “8” in panels with one other side having “TORONTO BLUE JAYS” and the opposite side having the MLB logo. This base displays outstanding use with numerous dirt stains and abrasion marks. Underneath the base is handwritten in blue marker “9/21/01 Toronto”. The metal anchor is still attached to the underside of this base and this comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. and a signed LOA from Cal will accompany this item. There is also an MLB Authenticate hologram (GT00040618), authenticating that this base was used during the September 20, 2001 game in Toronto.
