During the period this offered Adirondack M63 model bat dates to, Willie Mays was topping off the numbers that made him one of the greatest ballplayers of all-time. By the end of the 1960’s he was closing in on the big 4-0 as Mays remained an offensive powerhouse, hitting 64 home runs during the 1968-1970 seasons. At this point only Babe Ruth had hit more home runs and many though Mays had a chance at beating his record. On September 22, 1969, he became just the second player to reach the coveted 600 career home run mark, a milestone he modestly brushed aside by telling sportswriters, "Winning the game was more important to me than any individual achievements."

The following year Mays recorded his 3,000th career hit, all but ensuring him a plaque in Cooperstown. It was a surprise to no one when the Sporting News chose Willie Mays as the “Player of the Decade.” Willie’s 1968-70 era Adirondack M63 model bat is un-cracked and exhibits excellent use. There are several ball marks with stitch impressions that are found on the left and back barrel. Green bat rack paint streaks can be seen on the left and front barrel and a moderate coat of pine tar remains on the handle. The model number “M63” is stamped into the knob and Mays’ iconic number “24” is handwritten in red marker. The ash has taken on a warm, golden brown tone with age upon which the barrel and center brand stamping displays nicely. A prime game used bat from the latter part of Willie Mays’ Hall of Fame career. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B05636) for the game use and has been given a very high grade of GU 9.
