J. Edgar Hoover, the longtime director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), may be one of the most controversial American figures of the 20th century. He was appointed as the director of the Bureau of Investigation – the FBI's predecessor – in 1924 and was instrumental in founding the FBI in 1935, where he remained director for another 37 years until his death in 1972 at the age of 77. Offered here is a J. Edgar Hoover business card that has been signed by Hoover in blue pen. The card reads “AUTOGRAPH” in black on the top and Hoover signed his name in bold blue pen below. “J. EDGAR HOOVER DIRECTOR FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION” is printed in black below. This comes with a COA from JSA (R84022) for the signature.
