Drafted 1st overall by the Seattle Mariners in the 1987 MLB Amateur Draft, Ken Griffey, Jr. made his Major League debut on April 3, 1989. He would have a solid if unspectacular rookie year, finishing 3rd in AL Rookie of the Year voting behind pitchers Gregg Olson and Tom “Flash” Gordon. The following season, in 1990, Griffey would hit .300 with 22 home runs and 80 RBI, and a Hall of Fame career was well underway. This offered Rawlings Pro-TB model glove was used by Junior during the 1990 season and displays light game use. This all-black leather glove has a “TRAP-EZE” web and a “HOLDSTER” index finger hole on the outside. The red Rawlings label patch is sewn on the outer wrist and the Rawlings “R” logo is to the left of the “HOLDSTER” hole. “24” is handwritten in faded silver below the “R” and “GOLD GLOVE SERIES” is in gold on the outer thumb. This glove comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1G00694) for the game use. Additionally, there is a letter of provenance from Juan Clines, who states in his LOA that he was a childhood friend of Ken Griffey, Jr. and that this glove was given to him and signed in what he states is “somewhat faint”. Juan Clines is the son of former Major Leaguer Gene Clines, who was the Mariners’ hitting coach from 1989-1992. Please note that due to the faintness of Griffey’s signature on the thumb by the number, third party authentication could determine the authenticity of Griffey’s signature.
