Graded NM-MT 8 by Global Authentication. Collectors have long been acquainted with Topps' scratch-off disguise feature through the Who Am I? production of 1967. That issue's composition provided for the removal of silly, exaggerated faces to disclose a cartoon-style portrayal of a famous personality. Almost unknown in the hobby, though, is that the company experimented with its disguise creation on a couple of Beatles cards (as well as, almost unbelievably, a few common players from its 1967 baseball production). Offered is a true superstar from this indescribably rare concept effort. This is an over-printed, "disguised" Paul McCartney card from the in-house proposal. This card is blank-backed, as reverse designs were never conceived. Its startling appearance, wherein the musician is "hidden" behind buck teeth, mustache, huge eyes and augmented hair, is displayed with quality in this nearly unique novelty. Failing to advance too far beyond the initial, drawing-board stage, less than a half-dozen specimens of the offered card were ever produced. This is a wonderfully intriguing, elite non-sports piece, in Near Mint to Mint condition.
