1999 saw Derek Jeter leading the AL in hits while batting a hefty .349, his career high. Most importantly, he helped lead the Yankees to the post season where he continued his torrid hitting, batting .455 in the ALDS and .350 ALCS. In the World Series, Jeter ran up against the vaunted Atlanta Braves mound corps of Maddux, Glavine and Smoltz. This trio of future Hall of Famers proved to be no obstacle as Jeter hit .353 against them along with a double as the Yankees swept Atlanta. Used during the 1999 season, Jeter’s Louisville Slugger P72 model bat is un-cracked and shows outstanding use. There is checking from repeated ball contact found on the front/left barrel and slight chipping to the Black/Smith finish which has been professionally restored. Many ball marks with stitch impressions cover the barrel along with blue ink transfers, cleat imprints and bat rack paint streaks. The impression of a weighted batting donut can be seen, and a moderate coat of Mota Stick is present on the upper handle. In short, this gamer has it all. The Captain has completed this bat by signing the barrel in silver marker, adding “99 WS Champs.” This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (G55054) for the game use and has been given a very high grade of GU 9.5 and a COA from Steiner Sports for the signature.
