Offered is a 1949 University of Southern California from Hall of Fame Boston Celtics guard Bill Sharman’s junior year.  Sharman is pictured, and mentioned, in a 10-page section from pages 230 through 239 focused on the USC basketball team in the 500-page hardcover book. The interior is printed in black & white and color with photographs, illustrations and stories about the student activities and events at the Los Angeles, California college. The front cover of the 9 ¼ x 12-inch black hardcover features the title “El Rodeo” embossed in gold type at the upper left, an illustration of a gold miner and a nugget in gold embossed on the center and the legend “’49ER” embossed in red in the right center. The legend “EL RODEO ‘49er” is embossed in gold type on the spine. Sharman completed high school in the Central California city of Porterville, California. He served during World War II from 1944 to 1946 in the US Navy and was a graduate of the University of Southern California. He played 1st base on the 1948 USC Trojans' College World Series championship team. Following his senior year, Sharman was selected as one of the 1950 NCAA Men's Basketball All-Americans. He is mostly known for his time with the Boston Celtics in the 1950s, partnering with Bob Cousy in what was then considered the greatest backcourt duo of all time. As a coach, Sharman won titles in the ABL, ABA, and NBA, and is credited with introducing the now ubiquitous morning shootaround. He was the first North American sports figure to win a championship as a player, coach, and executive. He was a 10-time NBA champion (having won four titles as a player with the Celtics, one as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, and five as a Lakers executive), and a 12-time World Champion in basketball overall counting his ABL and ABA titles. This item comes from The Bill Sharman Family Collection.
